The Clinic doctors
are trained in one of three specialties: Internal Medicine, Family
Practice and General Surgery.
Internal medicine
specialists (Internists) focus on adult medicine and have undergone
special study and training that focuses on adult diseases and their
prevention. Internists provide long term care for their patients, from
teenagers through senior citizens.
Family practice physicians are trained to provide continuing and
comprehensive medical care, health maintenance and preventive services to
each member of the family regardless of sex, age or type of problem.
Insurance providers
consider Internal Medicine and Family Practice doctors Primary Care
Physicians (PCP). As your PCP they act as your advocate in all health
related matters, including the appropriate use of consultants, health
services, and community resources.
General Surgery
doctors are trained to perform major and minor surgical procedures. Their
intensive residency includes experience in things like gall bladder
removal (cholecystectomy), carpal tunnel surgery, thyroid and breast biopsies,
pacemaker placement, and skin excisions. The work in consultation with your primary physician
to provide surgical expertise as needed.
Physician Assistants are health care professionals
licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. As part of their comprehensive
responsibilities, PAs conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat
illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care,
assist in surgery, and prescribe medications.
